Ordained by God. From the very beginning, God intended for a man and woman to be joined together. After God formed Adam out of the dust and set him over the Garden of Eden, God declared that “it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” (Gen. 2:18.) Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Gen. 2:24.) He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. (Prov. 18:22.)
Union in Love. The Bible teaches, “Husbands, love your wives” (Ephesians 5:25) and “teach the young women … to love their husbands” (Titus 2:4). "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." (1 Cor. 13:4-7.)
Joyful. When couples are committed to God, there is joy in the union. "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Phil. 4:4.) “Rejoice with the wife [or husband] of your youth” (Prov. 5:18) and “enjoy life with your [spouse], whom you love" (Eccl 9:9).
Statement of Faith. We believe the Scriptures are God’s special revelation to mankind and are the supreme and final authority in matters of faith and practice (2 Timothy 4:16-17). A Christian marriage is an exclusive union between one man and one woman, as it was in the beginning (Genesis 2:24, Malachi 2:15; Matthew 19:4-6). Marriage should honor and glorify God (1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Peter 4:11, Revelation 15:4). Marriage is sacred because it depicts the relationship between Jesus and his church (Ephesians 5:22-23, 32-33).
Those who wish to be married at the Idyllwild Community Church must be members, children of members, or nonmembers in agreement with our statement of faith and approved by the Pastor. Church facilities may not be used by any person or group that advocates or engages in practices contrary to our statement of faith and wedding policies.
