Every year, our church celebrates Super Bowl Sunday by putting on our own "Souper Bowl."
In the weeks leading up to game day, we put two barrels in the foyer of the church. On each barrel is the banner of a team playing that year. Members of the congregation bring in canned and dry goods and place them in the barrel of the team they support to win the big game.
On game day, we count the goods in each barrel and announce the winner of the Souper Bowl. The food is then taken to the Idyllwild Help Center to help individuals and families in need. It is another way our congregation satisfies God's admonition to shine a light in the world.
Many thanks to Linda Young for heading up this event each year.
If you give some of your own food to feed those who are hungry and to satisfy the needs of those who are humble, then your light will rise in the dark, and your darkness will become as bright as the noonday sun. (Isaiah 58:10)
