Emergency Disaster Plan. As a church family, we want to be prepared in the event of an emergency, both individually and so we can assist others who need help. If we need to evacuate off the mountain, you may need help with rides, animals, and belongings. Below is a list of important things to have ready in advance.
Emergency Supplies. Everyone should purchase the following items and keep them in a place where they are readily accessible.
- First aid materials, including but not limited to bandages, gauze, scissors, cut and rash creams, antiseptic cream, antihistamine tablets, cough syrup, alcohol towels, eye drops, distilled water, and insurance cards.
- A list of your medicines and enough doses for one week.
- A whistle, in case you need to call for help or assist a rescue team in finding you.
- A flashlight and spare batteries.
- A poncho to stay dry in case of rain.
- A change of thermal clothing, soap, toothpaste, a toothbrush, deodorant, cotton, cleaning towels, lotion, disposable tissues, razors, and feminine towels.
- A plastic bag with a copy of your identification, license, passport, and social security.
- Goggles to protect your eyes from dust and other hazards.
- A gallon of water per person, providing enough water for between 3 and 4 days.
- Extra phone chargers and a portable charger to charge on the go.
- If you add food to your emergency kit, make sure it is non-perishable.
- A self-charging radio.
- Cash, in case you cannot access an ATM during an emergency.
- Emergency Preparedness Kits can be purchased from the Red Cross. or from www.Amazon.com (type “Emergency Preparedness Kits”)
Contact Information. In addition to keeping the above items on hand, you should keep contact information with your emergency supplies.
- Choose a contact person who will check on you during a disaster and decide how you will communicate with each other (for instance, by telephone, or knocking on doors). Consider speaking with your neighbors about developing a check-in system together.
- Create a list of contact information for family members and friends. Leave a copy by your phone(s) and include one in your Emergency Supply Kit.
- Plan how you will leave and where you will go during an evacuation.
- If you have medical, transportation, or other access needs during an emergency, consider signing up for SMART911, Code Red, or your local county registry, depending upon which service your area uses to help first responders identify people who may need assistance right away.
Make a Plan for Pets. You should include your pets in your evacuation and emergency response plans. This includes packing an emergency kit for animals with food, water, and medication. You should know which shelters accept non-service animals and enlist the support of friends and neighbors to help with pet care if local shelters are not an option.
